Zoom Whitening.

Zoom Whitening-Is It Right For You?

Teeth become stained and discolored due to a number of reasons, but the primary factors include drinking tea, red wine, coffee, and similar staining beverages and smoking. Once teeth begin to yellow or become stained, it is not possible to get them white again simply by brushing. Although there are many teeth whitening products on the market, none of them provides you with whitening comparable to what you will receive if you have your teeth professionally whitened at a dentist’s office. At Modern Dental in East Windsor, NJ, we provide Zoom whitening for our patients.

Before the Procedure

Before undergoing Zoom whitening, we will do a full examination of your teeth and gums to determine your state of oral health. If there are no problems and we determine that Zoom whitening will benefit you, we will give your teeth a thorough cleaning prior to whitening. This will remove any buildup of tartar on your teeth, providing a smooth, clean surface to apply the Zoom whitener.

Zoom Whitening

The Zoom whitening system utilizes a whitening gel containing 25% hydrogen peroxide in a ph-balanced formula. The gel is activated using a special ultraviolet lamp, which enhances and speeds up the gel’s whitening power. We will put a plastic retainer in your mouth that will keep it open during the procedure, and we will cover your gums, tongue, and lips. After the gel is applied to your teeth, you will sit under the Zoom light for 15 minutes at a time for three total intervals. During the procedure, the hydrogen peroxide breaks down, allowing oxygen to penetrate the enamel, breaking down stains in the enamel and the dentin underneath. Once you have been under the Zoom lamp for a total of 45 minutes, we will remove the whitening gel and apply a fluoride gel on your teeth to reduce sensitivity.

After the Procedure

Before leaving the office, we will provide you with a take-home Zoom whitening kit that will allow you to maintain your white teeth at home. The kit consists of trays that you place inside of your mouth and Zoom whitening gel. Follow the dentist’s directions for how frequently you should use the gel. To prolong the whitening, you should avoid drinking beverages or eating foods that stain. A good rule to remember is that if it will stain your clothing, then it will stain your teeth. Brush and floss at least twice a day to keep your teeth clean and white and your gums healthy.
